Largest Scientific Study on Effectiveness of Online Video Advertising Presented at Internet Conference

University of Massachusetts Amherst presented a study on the effectiveness of video advertising as an economic, sustainable and profitable media platform. The study covered 275 million ads from in 367 million videos. With over 3,000 publishers and 65 million viewers, this study is the largest ever done on video advertising.

UMass researchers used Akamai's media analytics platform to study a 15 day period in April 2013 of anonymized viewer data to come up with their observation.

The study noted several factors such as the duration of the ad, where the ad is inserted, and viewer behavior while the ad is showing. It is even observed that weekend and evening viewing scored higher than regular days. Also, a 10 to 15 second fast loading video ad inserted in the middle of a video has a higher completion rate especially if the visitor is a repeat visitor on the site.

The findings of the study will be presented at the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Internet Measurement Conference in Barcelona.

Online video is one of the largest source of internet traffic and companies like YouTube are taking advantage of the opportunities it presents for advertising.

This week's Weekend Video is a sequel of sorts to that of last week. It's UFOS The Secret History 2.

In 1957 in Brazil, Antonio Villas Boas claimed he was taken by extraterrestrial aliens into their spacecraft. This incident was the first reported alien abduction.

Its a series of bonus interviews and addenda to the DVD release of the film UFOs The Secret History. It presents an examination of the Extraterrestrial Hypothesis -- the notion that some UFO reports are probably explained by extraterrestrial visitation and why contact may include the alarming notion of Alien Abduction and how an advanced culture might strategize contact with an emerging civilization.

While the first part focuses more on the history and how the UFO phenomenon started. This video focuses more on UFO contact and how we as a civilization may be affected by it.

Weekend Video: UFOS The Secret History

Another recommended UFO film to watch and this week's Weekend Video is UFOs: The Secret History. It has a fresh take on the UFO phenomenon and is highly informative.

On June 24, 1947, a pilot and businessman named Kenneth Arnold spotted nine flying objects near Mount Rainier in Washington. Quickly reporting the sighting and coining the term "flying saucer", mankind's fascination with UFO and anything extraterrestrial started.

It's not over the top or too heavy. The video traces the progression of how we view UFOs throughout the years. It has great footage and interviews that will entertain both novices and UFO enthusiasts alike.

The documentary doesn't really highlight theories or conspiracies about UFOs and extraterrestrial aliens. It focuses more on the history of UFOs and how it reflects our culture. As stated by Jerome Clark, author of the award-winning, multi-volume UFO Encyclopedia. "UFOs: The Secret History is the thinking viewer's guide to the puzzles and paradoxes of an extraordinary phenomenon that continues to haunt our times and trouble our dreams. About the film, David Cherniack , the filmaker, says, "The role of science has been severely lacking in addressing the question of extraterrestrial visitation,". Cherniack himself has witnessed a UFO event when he was a boy.

In an interview he adds, "That really is the question I'd like people to come away from the film with — the role of science in this whole thing, in particular some scientists who have acted as debunkers, and unreasonably so.. It seemed like sometimes they were making things up as they went along no matter how ridiculous they sounded."

Weekend Video: Lost UFO Documentary by Disney

This UFO documentary was filmed and produced by The Walt Disney Company. Titled 'Alien Encounters from New Tomorrowland' and hosted by Robert Urich, there is also an introduction in the beginning by Michael D. Eisner, head of Walt Disney at the time.

It is said that this documentary was only shown once on television in just five states and never again. The UFO documentary shows some unseen actual UFO footage and expert interviews. Weird that UFOs are presented as a matter of fact and the docu even includes Disney's proposal on how the alien encounter should be treated.

Watching the film, I guess the reason Disney shelved this film is because it might precondition children not to trust what the government is saying about UFOs and aliens. Disney's main audience are children and this film may have negative reactions from parents, I guess. But still, it is an entertaining and informative without being too controversial.

Out of the Blue: A UFO Documentary

This post is a bit different from the rest. The topic is about Aliens and UFOs. Extraterrestrial Aliens.

The featured video is in my opinion one of the best and objective UFO documentaries around, Out of the Blue. If there's one UFO documentary to watch, this is it. I highly recommend it.

How relevant is it? Well, in 2004, in an Advocacy Initiative effort led by the Sci-Fi Channel and President Clinton's Chief of Staff, John Podesta, copies of Out of the Blue were given to 435 members of Congress with the hope that it might lead to the disclosure of what the U.S. Government actually knows about UFOs.
